It’s fair to say a restless urge for creativity has punctuated everything Stopmakingme aka Daniel Avery has done to date. Having grown up on and been influenced by the risk taking DJ sets of Andrew Weatherall, Erol Alkan and Optimo, his own DJing style sees electro and techno thrown alongside cosmic drones, post-punk angles and mutant new wave whilst no momentum – or any floor – is lost. It was this drive that prompted Fabric to quickly pick him up as a resident and calls to entertain the masses at Bugged Out and Durrr on a regular basis.
Already with his records being played by some of his DJ heroes, a measure of Avery’s growing reputation as a producer can be demonstrated by recent remix commissions for Hercules & Love Affair, DFA 1979, Metronomy, Black Devil Disco Club, In Flagranti and Munk to name just a few. Furthermore, Dan has been collaborating with UK club legend Justin Robertson with releases already confirmed for Tigersushi, Gomma and Southern Fried as well as a new, purely dancefloor, project with Danny Ashenden from The C90s: Say Yes To Another Excess, the first tracks of which will be arriving on Bang Gang this summer of 2011, just in time for the festivals.

It’s been 21 long years since Deee-Lite brought the colorful sights and sounds of New York’s club culture into the mainstream. Formed in 1986, the trio was led by vocalist Lady Miss Kier (born Kieren Kirby in Youngstown, OH) and fleshed out by a pair of DJs, Super DJ Dmitry (a classically trained guitarist and Russian emigre born Dmitry Brill) and Jungle DJ Towa Towa (born Doug Wa-Chung in Tokyo, Japan).
Fusing house, techno, rap, ambient, and funk music with an outrageous visual flair largely influenced by the drag queen community (Kier’s fondness for Fluevog platform shoes helped the ’70s fashion revival gather steam), Deee-Lite became hugely popular among New York club go’ers, and the trio’s own unique cultural make-up earned them a following which ignored racial and sexual boundaries. In 1990, they debuted with the album World Clique, a crossover smash thanks to hits like the loping classic “Groove Is in the Heart” (featuring the fluid bass of Bootsy Collins and the saxophone of Maceo Parker) and “Power of Love.”
With their 1992 follow-up, Infinity Within, Deee-Lite’s music turned overtly political as songs touched base with hot topics like the environment, safe sex, and democracy. Towa Towa left the group soon after; rechristened Towa Tei, he released his solo debut, Future Listening, in 1995. Kier and Dmitry, meanwhile, enlisted DJ Ani for 1994’s Dewdrops in the Garden, a sensual outing influenced by the growing rave culture. After the release of 1996’s remix album Sampladelic Relics and Dancefloor Oddities, Deee-Lite disbanded.

“Chris Shively aka Murderbot aka Chrissy Murderbot — DJ, producer, label owner, Chicago resident and rave encylopedia. He came to many people’s attention for his tearing jungle productions on Bananas NYC, Mashit and Dead Homies around 2005, but has since capitalized on his undying love for—and ridiculously detailed knowledge of—all things rave. Never one to pigeonhole himself, Murderbot defines his style as ‘juke-rave-jungle-disco-tropical-hi-NRG-gangsta-dancehall-ghetto-garage-core’, and it’s within these constraints he has carved himself a status as one of dance music’s most exciting DJs and producers. “ —The Fat Club
Since getting started as a DJ in 1995, he’s played at over 400 events in more than 15 countries. Chrissy has done official remixes for Delorean, Lemonade, Warrior Queen, Hakan Lidbo, Hostage, CZR, Waxmaster, Norrit, Ward 21, Noise Floor Crew, Beta SP, Johnny Moog, Larytta, and others.
